My best car?

The best car I had was a 1976 Ford F100 Ranger painted metallic blue with white detailing. Manufactured the year catalytic converters were mandatory for cars but not trucks, it was the last Ranger truck to be ‘full-sized.’

I named him after the Mongo from “Blazing Saddles.”  He had camper springs in the back, a stepped bed cap, street tires, and with the stock front end, looked like he was always on the prowl.  The previous owner carpeted the entire interior of the cab, so he was nice and toasty in the winter, and relatively quiet for a older truck.  Power to spare, and I could climb in the engine compartment with the 350 cu.in. engine and close the hood completely.  Mongo had a bunch of other little tweaks and quirks, like racing camshafts and the key would fall out of the ignition and he’d keep on going.  Left in drive without the parking brake on, he would cruise at about 25 mph at idle, dropping to 15 mph if it was up a hill.

I liked Mongo. Pity about the Camaro doing 40+ mph moving his entire front end about 18″ to the right.
